Getting started
What do I need?
An iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. Nothing else: no piano, no account and no internet connection.
Can I connect my piano?
No. Robin doesn't read a piano. The keyboard on screen is the app's own, and the sound plays through the iPad.
Where do I start?
On the map, the screen Robin opens on. Each arrow reads "is built with". Tap a box and choose: open the section that shows it on the keyboard, or read the page in the Guide that explains it. At the foot of every section, a line tells you where it sits on the map: what it is built with, and where it is used.
Language and note names
How do I change the language?
Tap the gear at the top right to open Settings, then choose under Language. Robin follows its own setting, not the language your iPad is set to.
Do Re Mi or C D E?
In Settings → Notes. Follow language gives Do Re Mi in Spanish and C D E in English. You can also pick one on its own, so English with Do Re Mi or Spanish with C D E work too.
Why does Robin write E♭ in one place and D♯ in another?
They are the same key on the piano but not the same note. Which one is right depends on the key and the chord, and Robin writes each where it belongs.
Is this fingering the standard one?
Where a fingering or a name is standard practice, Robin says so. Where it is the app's own choice, it says that too.
Sound and display
I don't hear anything
Turn up the iPad's volume. If headphones or a Bluetooth speaker are connected, the sound goes there.
Can I use a light or dark theme?
Yes. In Settings → Theme, choose System to follow the iPad, or pin Light or Dark.
The keyboard is too small or too big
In Settings → Keyboard size, choose small, medium or large.
I'm color blind. Can I tell the colors apart?
That was a design requirement from the start, because the developer is color blind too. The colors were checked by simulating color blindness and measuring the difference, not by eye. If two of them still look the same to you, please write and say which.
Privacy
Does Robin collect anything?
No. It has no account, no analytics and no network connection, and your settings stay on your iPad. See the privacy policy.
